Whoever takes over is likely to be labeled as "just to implement Trump's interest rate cut order", breaking the Fed's traditional "depoliticised" appearance. In order to expand his influence in the short term, Trump is reportedly considering appointing a "shadow chairperson" to pressure the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates before current chairperson Powell leaves office next year.
