The Department of Justice is investigating a former employee of DigitalMint, a cryptocurrency payment service, who is accused of making an agreement with hackers in a ransomware attack to illegally profit from ransomware payments from victim groups. Marc Jason Grens, president of DigitalMint, which acts as a negotiator in ransomware attacks and assists victim groups with cryptocurrency payments, informed partners of the investigation this week.
