Apple is considering introducing external artificial intelligence for Siri

Apple (AAPL. O) is considering using external artificial intelligence to fix Siri, in a major reversal. Apple is considering adopting Anthropic or OpenAI technology to power Siri. According to people familiar with the matter, Apple has held discussions with the two companies about Siri using their big language models. Apple has asked the two companies to train versions of their models in order to run tests on Apple's cloud infrastructure. At present, most of Apple's AI functions are implemented through self-developed technology, which the company calls "Apple Foundation Models", and plans to launch a new version of the voice assistant based on the technology in 2026. But Apple has not yet made a final decision and is still considering its own model. A competing project internally called LLM Siri, which uses an internal model, is still under active development.
