The spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the United States said in response to a reporter's question on the high-level economic and trade talks between China and the United States that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce have made a statement on the high-level economic and trade talks between China and the United States. I would like to emphasize the following three points again: First, the United States has taken the initiative to convey information to China through various channels recently, hoping to start talks with China on tariffs and other issues. After carefully evaluating the information from the United States, the Chinese side decided to agree to engage with the US side. The talks were held at the request of the US side. Second, China's position of firmly opposing the excessive imposition of tariffs by the United States is consistent. It will firmly safeguard its own legitimate rights and interests, international fairness and justice, and safeguard WTO rules and the multilateral trading system. Third If the US really wants to solve the problem through dialogue and negotiation, it should stop threatening and applying pressure and engage in dialogue with China on the basis of equality, respect and mutual benefit.
