Trump suspends export restrictions on Nvidia H20 chips to China

According to NPR, after a dinner with Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang at Mar-a-Lago, President Trump decided to suspend planned restrictions on Nvidia's H20 chip exports to China. According to people familiar with the matter, the policy shift is related to Nvidia's commitment to increase investment in AI data centers in the United States. The H20 is currently the most advanced AI chip that American companies can legally export to China. Chinese technology companies have stockpiled about $16 billion of such chips in the first quarter of this year in anticipation of U.S. restrictions. Experts called the decision a major victory for China, which still lacks domestic chip production and performance. U.S. lawmakers expressed concern about this, arguing that each day of delay provides an opportunity for rival countries to stockpile technology.
